COVID-19 - UPDATE

APRIL 14, 2020

We hope all families and friends are staying safe and healthy.

The league has been monitoring the developments of the escalating outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. In follow up to the previous updates communicated in mid-March and at the end of March, the league is providing another update for the membership.

Usually at this time of year the players are excited to begin another year of ball hockey but unfortunately during these difficult times, ball hockey activities are suspended.

The safety and health of all the participants, staff, families, and friends are the highest priority.

As everyone is aware, the 2020 season has been delayed as the City of Guelph facilities are closed along with schools which are presently closed. The league has had many members inquire about the possibility of playing in July-August if the situation improves.

Should the situation improve, and the City of Guelph decide to re-open facilities based on the recommendations of the Local Public Health Organization, the league could possibly operate a program in June-July-August this year.

The league has looked at many options and is also following the guidance of the other spring/summer sports along with the National Governing sport authorities which have also delayed the season openings for 2020. The League will be monitoring on a regular basis to keep pace with the evolving situation. If public health authorities determine that it is safe to return to public facilities, the league season could be played later in 2020. The league will provide updates and will follow the Local Public Health Organization’s recommendations.

The league is able to keep your registration on file for a potential summer season or for the 2021 season and you will have the spot secured with no increase in registration fee.

If you would like to cancel your registration with the league, please send an email to info@gmbhl.com . The league will process a refund and cancel the registration.

For those that have participated in the past and may participate in the future, the Ontario Ball Hockey Federation (OBHF) Provincial Championship Tournaments scheduled for July are still scheduled and the league is expecting more announcements from the OBHF in the future.

In the interim, the league will be continuing to monitor and assess the situation, with the guidance of public health authorities and our sport’s governing authorities. The league will keep you up to date of any further changes. Updates are also posted on the league website at www.gmbhl.com and as many members are aware, the league has been committed to replying to any member inquiries in a timely manner via email.

The Guelph Minor Ball Hockey League hopes that all participants, staff and their families and friends remain healthy and safe during this difficult time.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and support.

April 17, 2020 UPDATE

The Canadian Ball Hockey Association (CBHA) is committed to providing its participants and other support groups related to our programs, a safe and healthy environment in which to enjoy the sport of ball hockey.

As such we have been closely monitoring the events relating the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in all Provinces. The CBHA Board of Directors have made the decision to extend the suspension of all CBHA sanctioned activities (including those of our member Provinces and Leagues), effective Friday April 17, 2020 until Monday June 1, 2020. This date may change due to the nature of the situation. The CBHA Board of Directors and its member Provinces will provide a status update as we approach June 1st!

The Board is unanimous in their position that this is the proper and responsible action required to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved with CBHA sanctioned programs.

We realize during this difficult time that planning and operation of a ball hockey program is difficult to manage. The status related to Coronavirus (COVID-19) in each province is different. Ultimately it will be Local and Provincial Health Authorities that will decide when it is safe for ball hockey to return. Provincial Associations and Leagues will need to decide their best course of action, to patiently wait to see when the seasons can begin or whether to cancel their season altogether. That is a decision for each to make and the CBHA fully supports either decision.

The CBHA will continue to monitor the situation and will keep our members posted on any new developments and actions that may be required.

The CBHA wishes to thank, in advance, all involved with CBHA programs and activities for their cooperation as we all navigate through this unique and difficult situation.

MARCH 25, 2020

We hope all families and friends are staying safe and healthy.

The City of Guelph is extending the closure of all City facilities to April 30 to slow the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The league has been monitoring the developments of the escalating outbreak of the COVID-19 virus.

The safety and health of all the participants, staff, families and friends are the highest priority at this time.

The season opening has been postponed to May.

In the interim, we will be continuing to monitor and assess the situation, with the guidance of public health authorities and our sport’s governing bodies. We’ll keep you up to date of any further changes. The League will be monitoring on a regular basis to keep pace with the evolving situation. If public health authorities determine that it is safe to return to public facilities, the league will update the membership to complete preparations for the upcoming season. The league will provide updates and will follow the Local Public Health Organization’s recommendations.

The many closures of public gathering places and events has the potential to slow the spread of the virus and prevent the outbreak from reaching the level already seen in some other parts of the world. The league is fully supportive of all measures to keep our community safe and healthy.

The Guelph Minor Ball Hockey League hopes that all participants, staff and their families and friends remain healthy and safe during this difficult time.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and support.
