PREVIOUS UPDATE - JUNE 14, 2021

We hope your family and friends are staying safe and in good health and spirits.

Thank you for your commitment to the league during these difficult times.

With the ending of the Provincial Government lockdown, the Province of Ontario has now entered a three-step process for re-opening. The league has been reviewing the steps and hoping that ball hockey can played later during the summer months.

At the present time, the league may be able to commence playing games after the Government moves to Step 3 later in July. The specifics are not known at this time (other than Indoor sports with capacity limits will be permitted) but the league hopes to receive in-depth information to update the membership.

The league will be monitoring developments during Step 1 and hopes to continue to receive more information as progression is made to Step 2 and Step 3 of the re-opening phase. The GMBHL will be providing more information as we receive clear updates from the City of Guelph and Public Health Authorities.

The league has been in communication with the City of Guelph, and we will always make sure that we receive the complete and accurate information before we communicate to our membership in order that everyone receives the proper information.

The safety and health of all the participants, staff, families, and friends are the highest priority, and the league has been and will always follow the guidance of Public Health authorities.

PREVIOUS UPDATE - MARCH 22, 2021

We hope your family and friends are staying safe and in good health and spirits during the situation we are all in today.

The Guelph Minor Ball Hockey League (GMBHL) has been hoping and planning for a potential return to play for the 2021 season and we wanted to provide you with an official update. The league has been in communication with the City of Guelph, and we always want to make sure that we receive the complete and accurate information before we communicate to our membership in order that everyone receives the proper information.

The City of Guelph has moved to the Orange (Restrict) Zone of Public Health measures in the Province of Ontario. The league is expecting to receive an update from the City of Guelph Parks and Recreation Department. The Orange Zone designation would allow Team sports to be played under various modifications and restrictions. The City of Guelph needs to be in be in either the Orange (Restrict), Yellow (Protect) or Green (Prevent) Zone of Public Health to be able to facilitate a ball hockey season as the previous Red (Control) Zone of Public Health measures do not allow Team sports playing games as they are restricted under the Sports and Recreational guideline for the Red colour zone.

The league is waiting for the update from the City of Guelph to communicate all the protocols which will have to be followed to be able to play along with arena availability. With this updated information, the league can anticipate a start date in late April or early May, pending City of Guelph Public Health approval. The league has been preparing for the possibility of a season and has made sure to have all the safety protocols in place to ensure a safe return to playing.

The GMBHL will be providing more information regarding the upcoming season as we receive clear updates from the City of Guelph and Public Health Authorities.

The safety and health of all the participants, staff, families, and friends are the highest priority, and the league has been and will always follow the guidance of Public Health authorities.

The GMBHL has also developed a ‘Play Safe Manual’ for the anticipated return to play of the sport of ball hockey. This document has been submitted to the City of Guelph. This document is continuously being updated to reflect any changes. These guidelines are subject to change with any new information or updates from either Public Health Authorities, the Provincial Government, or the Ontario Ball Hockey Federation (OBHF) and its governing bodies.

In the ‘Play Safe Manual’, guidelines have been put in place for all aspects of a safe return to playing sports including pre-game, in-game, post-game guidelines and protocols. The league has always placed an emphasis on the safety for our members.

Some of the key initiatives in our ‘Safe Play Manual’ are:

  • Smaller rosters to encourage safe play and follow maximum participant guidelines.
  • Playing modifications for the sport to encourage safe play.
  • Clear entry and exit guidelines to the facilities to follow Public Health guidelines.

As soon as details are confirmed with the City of Guelph, the ‘Play Safe Manual’ will be available for everyone to review on the league website at www.gmbhl.com .

For those who have transferred your registration and fees from last year, we have allocated your child’s registration for the potential upcoming season. Your spot is secured and thank you again for your commitment to the league. Due to the on-going restrictions in place due to Covid-19, each age division will have limited spots for 2021 and as mentioned your place is secured with the league.

The Guelph Minor Ball Hockey League (GMBHL) is a member of the Ontario Ball Hockey Federation (OBHF). The OBHF is a member of the Canadian Ball Hockey Association (CBHA). The CBHA is an Associate Member and Partner of Hockey Canada.
